HarperCollins Focus Sales Representation

If you select the Propel Package then your title will be pitched to local stores by members of the HarperCollins Focus sales team. Titles will be featured in the HarperCollins Focus catalog on Edelweiss (the primary tool used by book retailers for information on upcoming books) and presented to the HarperCollins Focus sales team at the sales conference prior to the title's release.

Sales conference is a multi-day event where the titles for the upcoming season are presented to the sales team to prepare them to pitch those titles to their accounts. Sales conference happens in March, June, and October each year. The Rutledge Hill titles presented at sales conference will release two (2) months later to give the sales team time to pitch those titles prior to the Release Date.

The Release Date is the Wednesday when copies start to ship to stores and to the author. The On Sale Date is the Tuesday 27 days later when stores are expected to have received the books and have them merchandised so they are available for purchase. Online retailers also start to deliver orders on the On Sale Date.

To qualify for sales conference, all the information about the title and all editing and design work must be final and approved by the List Closing deadline two months prior to sales conference. If the deadline is missed then the title will be rescheduled for the following sales conference and will then be required to meet the List Closing deadline for that sales conference.

Following are a few key components of the selling process:

  • Title featured in the HarperCollins Focus catalog on Edelweiss (the primary tool used by book retailers for information on upcoming books).
  • Title presented to the sales team at the HarperCollins Focus sales conference 2-4 months prior to its release.
  • Title pitched to stores in the Metropolitan Market of your choice in the United States.
  • Sales representation for titles showing strong initial sales will be expanded to meet demand.
